Our History

The next meeting was called for the following Sunday with instructions to all members to pass the word that the Club had been formed within a short space of time. The membership had increased dramatically and some of these names you will know doubt recognise. John Quinn, Tommy Boyle, Peter Bonner, Hughie Mooney, Willie Carr, Pat Kelly, McCulloch, Eddie McQuillan, Pat Quigley, Frankie Gill, Tommy Sweeney, Tommy McLaughlin, Eddie McKeegan, John Gilmour, John Gilmour, Jim McCann, Pat McCann, Eamon Duffy, Jimmy Hall, Johnny McIntyre, John McGuiness, Hughie Lyons, Barney Halloren, Tommy Fitzimmons, Ken Greer, Joe Hughes, Alex Smith and Jimmy Kelly.

The Club became a thriving Social scene. Even though we were basically homeless, our members still turned up in force after leaving the “Cock” we settled for a while in the “Eight Bells” Church St. Luton and then through various pubs throughout the area, some of which where

  • George II  Bute St.

  • Panama Waller St.

  • Somerset Tavern

  • Regent Hasting St

  • Forresters

  • Griffin

And eventually after many disputes with the Council to our very own premises as they stand now in Chobham Street Luton.

Probably the greatest single item contributing to raising enough cash for our own premises was the “Tote” which was innovated by Willie Carr and an army of good sellers ( to many to mention here)

The Early Days of Glasgow Celtic Supporters Club (Luton Branch)

It was for the Scottish Cup Final in 1965 that Arthur Doris (senior) and Arthur Doris (junior) decided to organise a coach trip for Celtic Supporters from Luton.  Both men worked at Vauxhall Motors at the time and a large percentage of the coach party were also from this work.  It was such a success probably due to the fact we also beat Dunfermline 3 – 2 to lift the cup that on his return Arthur Doris (senior) thought it may be a good idea to start an official Supporters Club Branch in the Town.

Sadly however Arthur (senior) died of a heart attack at the age of 44 in December 1965.  The death came as a major shock to both his wife Bunty and his son Arthur (junior).  Half way through January 1966 with the settling down of the bereaved family, Arthur (junior) decided to honour his father’s dream of a Celtic Supporters Club in the town.  A letter was sent to the Celtic Supporters Association in Glasgow requesting details of how to form a Branch. In the reply another chap from Luton had also been in touch with the Association regarding this and his name had been included to enable Arthur Doris (junior) to contact him, his name was Mr. Danny Fallon.  Contact was made with Mr Fallon and after discussing both their ideas they approached “The Cock” Public House in Park St. Luton for the hire of their spare room on a Sunday Night in February 1966 and it was here at the Inaugural meeting that the Glasgow Celtic Supporters Club Luton Branch was founded.  The Attendance was 12 and a 2/6d subscription was paid to start the fund raising rolling.

About Us

Throughout the year, we hold various fundraising events as well as members children’s parties for Easter, Halloween and of course Christmas. We have a member’s night once a month and book a specialist group or tribute band/singer for the evening.  BBQ’s on Bank Holidays (weather permitting)

We support several very worthy Charities each year including:

The Celtic Foundation, Yawn, Keech Cottage, Happy Days, Chums, Macmillan Nurses, the L&D Hospital.

Every Saturday night we have a live act/singer and a raffle for our members in the member’s bars and guests are welcome but would pay a small entrance fee for the night + sign in, in the Visitors book.

Our Hall is a 180-capacity for hire, to both members and none members. Perfect for Weddings, Christenings, Confirmations, Birthdays and fund raising events and other in person events. Please see our Hall Hire page for further details here.

We can also divide our members' bar into two with the soundproof wall to allow small bookings (up to 50) to be held for small events if required.

All are welcome so why not pop along and have a pint and the craic with us supporting the Bhoys or have a great Saturday night out.
